Quinta do Convento 2018 Red Reserve. The first field blend from the old vines at Kranemann Wine Estates is now available

Apr 21st 22

The first Red Reserve from Kranemann Wine Estates, bearing our iconic brand – Quinta do Convento – has just arrived on the shelves. It is the first field blend from old vines, combining the distinct plots of the legendary Quinta do Convento de São Pedro das Águias, where 50-year-old vines continue to grow, a true field blend planted with over 20 traditional Douro varieties.

During the extraordinary 2018 harvest, the year Kranemann Wine Estates was launched in the Douro region. When Vintage was declared for Kranemann Port wine, the red wine plots that best expressed the elegance and freshness of the Távora Valley's terroir took centre stage. "Right from the start, we've promoted distinct winemaking for the different plots, creating this wine using only the most distinguished grapes in the cellar. This wine is our first typical Douro field blend, demonstrating the purity of the traditional grape varieties in our oldest vineyards", explains the winemaker Diogo Lopes.

Following fermentation in stainless-steel open-top tanks, the wine was left to mature for 13 months in new and second-year French oak barrels, and for a further 18 months once bottled and before being launched on the market. "This wine is notable for its richness; it is intense, complex and elegant, presenting a freshness that is so specific to our terroir; the common factor across all the wines in our entire range", concludes Diogo Lopes.

Only 3.200 bottles of the Quinta do Convento 2018 Red Reserve were produced, making it an exclusive wine, reissued only in years of exceptional production.

We are launching the new Quinta do Convento 2019 Red alongside this wine. A fruity, intense wine with a fresh and elegant profile similar to the 2018 harvest, now sold out.
